    HVAC Tech or Electrician pay more than Automotive and they only need $1000 to $3000 in tools. Even if you include a brand new service van or truck, the automotive tech spends 5-10 times more on tools. It's ridiculous 😳 The auto repair tech in the USA spends the price of a new home on tools! It will never pay off because the tool buying never ends!

    Bro, you better be ready to cut them ratcheting wrenches for jobs my guy! Whatever it takes.... You need stubby ratchetings.... Unless you got em already, idk! I just cut ratcheting wrenches then replace them. Kinda psycho right here.

  • @chrismeyer957
    @chrismeyer957 2 дня назад

    I agree with 90% of what you said but I would recommend vintage USA made craftsman wrenches you can get for cheap and I would invest in better ratchets than gearwrench…I tried the gearwrench stuff and I’ve found it not to be durable at all, I’ve broken a few before I wrote them off.. All that being said I’m a railroad mechanic and I mainly use Proto tools and they are fantastic but a little pricey.

I see a lot of older guys and I use the term older very lightly 😂 who just turn up amd grab there wages at the end of the working week/month. And that's absolutely fine BUT work is so much more enjoyable when you love what you do... find a job you love and you'll never work a day in your life 👏 brilliant video 👌

    Some one new in the trade first ask your trainer or foreman what tools you will need it most, you can find some good deals on flea markets and even amazon. Wrench and socket it all depends what will be your specialty like heavy duty refinery shit you can't compare that with someone working in cars or aviation.

    You gave reasonable advice, but I lean more towards skipping the intermediate step and starting with the premium tools. The best tools will significantly out perform the intermediate tools and will last a lifetime. By all means, DON'T GO INTO DEBT to purchase tools. Purchase quality used tools to economize. You younger guys are buying in a market today that offers some attractive alternatives than my age group didn't have availabile. Off shore tool brands are available that seem to copy and attempt to enhance the features the trusted major brands used to only offer, and for tempting lower cost. Individual tools or specific sets or styles from these makers can be winners, but be cautious that service after the sale is less standardized and reliable than established major brands. Your comments are directed to the entry auto tech, and most of the RUclips tool comparisons that I see share that focus. Many of your recommendations are auto tech specific. Your recommendations are valid with your specific focus. My entire career was maintenance, starting commercial about 10 years, then moving industrial for 35. My skill set demands covered many trades, but tool requirements parallel auto techs. My recommendations are to skip the HF intermediate step and purchase the Snap-On wrenches, ratchets and sockets ASAP. Purchase Knipex pliers and Klein pliers. Klein is a premium plier for an affordable price. Knipex is simply hard to beat, is more affordable than Snap-On, and usually more ergonomic. Avoid fat comfort grip and insulated pliers. Go for the thin plastic grips like most of the Knipex and Klein. Look hard at PROTO pry bars with line up pin on the handle end to economize rather than buying hard handle pry bars. You get a dual function tool, requires less tool drawer space than the dark handles, and they are very fine tools. Mayhew is a better mid grade pry bar. Save your pennies and step up to Snap-On hard handles when time for the pry bar upgrade. Skip the alternative DMM and purchase Fluke, but do your research and only pay for the features that match your needs and your competence. Fluke has a dizzying array of options, but all will come with premium leads and accessories. There are lots of fine hammer options, but steer clear of HF. The major auto tool brands probably outsource or rebrand their hammers. Estwing, Vaughn and Trusty Cook are major hammer brands that can save some initial cash. Snap-On has their own brand and style of deadblow hammers. I own at least 15 from this series. Every one out performs the competition for function and weight to size ratio. They are costly, but study their options carefully and select styles that match your work demands. Wooden handled hammers are notorious for the head loosening, so I favor other handle options. Auto techs don't swing a hammer enough to warrant wooden handle elbow injury prevention. In general, tools should be strong, slender, sleek and long for leverage and clearance and ergonomics. Snap-On makes the best screw drivers. The tips are machined to fit fasteners and resist wear. Klein is my second choice. They are designed for the electrical industry. They are less rugged than Snap-On, but are much more affordable. Their rubber over plastic handles aren't ideal for oily mechanic work, but they are a quality tool at a moderate cost. Buy complete sets with no misses. I favor two sets of combination wrenches over box and end wrenches. Buy long wrenches like the standard Snap-On wrench size. Most other makers shorten their standard sets sacrificing leverage and purchase.
